Episode 4
Barry Ratzliff (’91) knew he wanted to be a teacher, but he never expected this would lead him to spend almost 30 years living and working oversees. After graduation in 1991, Barry was offered an opportunity to teach in Japan. Though he planned to only stay for two years, he fell in love with the country and decided to make the island of Hokkaido his home.
Since arriving in the country, he’s mainly worked in the field of education, at Hokkaido International School in Sapporo, where he eventually served as the Head of School.
